Museum Guided tours for groups are available subject to the availability of volunteer guides.
Preferred size for each group is 20 or less. More than 25 is impractical. Due to the limited number of volunteer tour guides available on any day, it is preferred that no more than 50 visit at any time, although groups up to 75 may be possible if the guides are available.
2 hours should be allowed for a gold and historical tour.
For year 5/6 school groups studying gold mining history, 1 1/2 to 2 hours should be allowed for the tour which includes a gold panning session. If more time is available teachers are welcome to self-guide the students around the rest of the museum's extensive exhibits.
Entry for teachers is free, as is up to 1 parent per 10 students.
As we cater for schools all over SE Queensland, August, September and October are often heavily booked.
Steaming Days are the 10am to 2pm. Held on the first Monday of the month (except Jan and Oct), which include demonstrations of the Davey-Paxman Boiler and related machinery.
If required a sausage sizzle is available for students catered for by the Cafe at the Museum at $3 per head.
